Meet Mike Tinkey

An engaged Mt. Pleasant resident of 42 years, he will preserve our small-town character while promoting sustainable growth and protecting green spaces. Having served as president of Wild Dunes Resort, COO of a multi-facility company that owned Shipyard and Port Royal Resorts on Hilton Head Island, deputy CEO of National Golf Course Owners Association, and CEO of Open Travel, he’s a pro at collaboration, problem-solving, and getting things done. Currently owner/partner of Tinkey Timberlands, a multigenerational sustainable forestry business, he knows the importance of solid groundwork in planning for the future.

As a Planning Commission member and now Town Council member, he serves on the Fire, Police, Judicial and Legal, Transportation, and Human Resources Committees. Your safety and well-being are paramount.

Mike’s Priorities for the Town of Mt. Pleasant

Consensus & Civility

I lead by listening, finding common ground and building trust. On Town Council, my non-partisan commitment to ensuring citizens are heard will guide decision-making in a collaborative spirit.

Sustainability & Resilience

Protecting our community on a vulnerable coast requires proactive policies. I will strengthen our tree ordinances to protect nature’s most effective drainage and cooling systems, putting muscle behind Mt Pleasant’s claim as a Tree City with our Community Forest Plan.

Live, Work, Connect

A thriving community includes a healthy mix of housing types, jobs, and transportation of all types, including safe walking, cycling, and public transportation. I support the vision for Mt. Pleasant Way and appropriate density. I also support working collaboratively within the greater Charleston area on these initiatives.

Clean & Green

As a long-time supporter of Charleston Waterkeeper and multiple conservation groups, I believe that quality of life for residents and all creatures is predicated on climate-friendly policies. I will work to enhance stormwater management, clean waterways, and smart growth.

Family Forward

Carole and I were fortunate to have our blended family of three sons grow up in Mt. Pleasant, who now have brought three daughters-in-love, six grandchildren, and a number of grand-dogs and grand-cats into our family, all living in the greater Charleston area. I support the Town’s investments in recreation, parks, and active lifestyle.
